Varsity College Waterfall’s new campus head will take office in August

This is a position Avadhi Ghela has always wanted, and being based in Gauteng helped her achieve it.

After accepting the position as campus head at the Independent Institute of Education’s (IIE) Varsity College Waterfall in Midrand, Avadhi Ghela will begin her duties on August 1.
“I feel honored to lead the campus team at a time where there is so much opportunity that lies before us,” said Ghela.

“It is wonderful being back on campus knowing that I will, as campus head, directly contribute towards shaping the lives of our future leaders by acting with precision, focus and care when working for and with our students,” said the proud mother of two boys.

Ghela’s journey with the IIE’s Varsity College began in 2002 at its Pietermaritzburg campus as manager of the School of Business and Technology after which she was appointed vice-principal of operations.

Her passion for operations grew as she moved into the national office where she held various positions including the national head of department, deputy operations manager, academic operations manager, and her most recent position as operations manager of the IIE’s Central Academic Team (Cat) before stepping into the role of campus head in August.

“Campus head is a position I have always wanted to step into. Being based in Gauteng made it possible for me. My full-circle experience of campus, national office, Cat, and my inherent desire to support campus and to make a difference in the student experience is what has, I believe, culminated in this,” said Ghela.

She said her passion for the brand came from those around her, which included her mentors and leaders who never lost sight of the IIE Varsity College vision.

“This inspired me and made me want to learn from everyone I came into contact with. I took advantage of every opportunity without hesitation.”

While academic operations have always been her passion, her true passion lies in making a difference at any level.

“The positions I have had has allowed me the privilege to be of service to campuses and indirectly to the students.”
