No winter recess for Noordwyk Grade 12 learners

Noordwyk Secondary School principal Alex Tau adamant the plan to have winter classes and arranging extra three days in Maths, Maths Literacy and Geography, will achieve the 100% pass rate.

Noordwyk Secondary School principal Alex Tau said they have plans in place to achieve a 100% matric pass rate this year after falling short in 2021 by 5%.

He said to achieve this, the school was holding winter classes which would provide extensive revision and offer support to learners who experienced difficulties in some subjects.

“We want to offer our teachers time as well so that they can focus on the Grade 12 learners without any interruptions. We also want to offer assessments so as to be able to gauge the level of readiness for the upcoming preliminary exams and eventually the final exams,” said Tau.

The Class of 2021 scored an impressive 95.6% pass rate compared to a 93% pass rate in 2020.

In the June exams this year, the matrics only achieved a 90% pass, however, the optimistic Tau was not despondent by these results as he believed in the action plan in place.

“As indicated our aim is clear, however, maths, maths literacy and geography were the most failed subjects in the previous June exams. We have already put a plan in place to improve our pass rates in the three subjects.”

He said this plan was all learners taking these three subjects would attend three extra days of lessons from July 11 to 13.

Tau concluded that this would hopefully help them achieve a 97% pass rate in a ‘worst-case scenario’.
