The soccer teams that participated in the exciting tournament included Joburg Roads Agency (JRA), Joburg Water, Joburg Region A head office, and Augmented Field Service Citizen Relationship and Urban Management.

Johannes Dikotla, a sports organiser at Urban Management and member of Region A sports committee, said the idea was for workers to socialise and form a good working relationships.

Region A topped the soccer group after beating JRA 3–2 on penalties in the final, while in netball Region A beat AFS 15–12 to take top spot.

“It was important because it was meant to unite Region A to combat substance abuse through sports, but we felt that we had to do it as Region A officials and workers before we could take this event to the youth,” said Dikotla.

The tournament also gave out awards for outstanding players and teams. Among the winners of the man-of-the-match awards in all four games played, including netball, were Skhumbuzo Zwane, Mathata Maluleka, Desire Mashiloane, and Ziwandisile Matshotyana.

Among other outstanding performances, Skidi Mabaso earned the goalkeeper of the tournament award, Ace Mangena took the goal of the tournament, Henny Molepo won coach of the tournament, and talented Tshwarelo Sehlega won player of the tournament.

“The tournament will be an annual event, and we are also planning a similar one for September, though it is still in the planning stages,” Dikotla concluded.
