Curro offers learnerships to matriculated learners

Thandeka Zulu who matriculated at Curro Academy Clayville last year is one of 10 learners who received a learnership this year.

As a school aiming to equip its learners with industry-relevant qualifications and transferrable skills in the marketing field, Curro offers its learners the chance to embark on a marketing learnership after matriculating.

The learnership programme is offered to Curro alumni by Curro Holdings Private College. A stringent application process ensures candidates are ideally suited to the advertising and marketing industry and can cope with the level of work required throughout the year-long course.

Thandeka Zulu (19) who matriculated from Curro Academy Clayville last year is one of 10 learners who received a learnership this year. She is currently enrolled at the Curro Rivonia campus to complete the learnership.

“If it was not for this learnership, I think I would be sitting at home this year because most young people like me give up if they get no funds to further their studies after matriculating,” said Zulu.

Through the programme, matriculated learners gain experience by participating in day-to-day functions within the Curro marketing framework.

On successful completion of the course, the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT Seta) will issue the learners with a South African Qualifications Authority ID 50479 or Further Education and Training Certificate — Advertising NQF4 Qualification.

Zulu, who lives in Ebony Park, said the programme will be essential for her. It will prepare her for work in the marketing field and encourage her to explore marketing, communications and advertising fields.

The learnership is based on a model of workplace experience at local Curro schools as well as academic interventions.

These interventions will be a combination of classroom and online lectures, group discussions, guest speakers, site visits, research, assignments, assessments, and assessment preparation time.
