Sector 3 Crime Forum re-opens petition for road closures in Noordwyk

Noordwyk residents urged to sign access control petition as a matter of urgency in order for the crime forum to implement crime-curbing strategies and plans should the City approve.

The Sector 3 Crime Forum is hoping more Noordwyk residents will sign a petition to be submitted to the City to request permission for road closures in the suburb.

This was revealed by the sector chairperson Marvin Maphiri at a community meeting held at Midrand Primary School on June 25.
He said 325 residents had signed the petition but they were hoping to get more than 50% positive responses from Noordwyk ratepayers. Should they achieve their goal, various roads and open land in Noordwyk could be completely closed off in a bid to fight illegal land invasions and crime activities.

Maphiri urged all residents to sign the petition so that they could start with the work as soon as possible because they would need about 67% of residents to sign to have their petition considered by the City.

“We want to obtain the community’s support and consent before we start with the project implementation by ensuring that all residents sign the petition. This will give the community awareness so that they are not left out and end up being frustrated when we get to the implementing stage,” said Maphiri.

He added the open land between Sagewood traffic circle and Magnolia Crescent, Talalla complex and George Street, and Poplar Road and Tambotie Circle will be completely closed off.

He said in the entire Midrand area, Noordwyk was the suburb with the second-highest crime stats over the past two to three years.

The project would cost each household R300 as a once-off payment and R20 annually to cover operational costs.
