Fathers celebrate their day with kids in the field by shedding a sweat

A fun-filled day at Curro Waterfall sees fathers spend time with their kids in the field of play before being pampered with gifts from their children on Father's Day.

Pre-school learners of Curro Waterfall City and their fathers took to the field of play as they participated in different sporting codes to celebrate Father’s Day on June 17.

Acting phase head of the pre-school Kelly Anderson said with Covid-19 restrictions completely fazed out, they made the decision to bring back all the fun days that they have not had been allowed to do for the past two years.

“We decided on a day filled with various ball games as we had Little Kickers [one of our extra-mural service providers] help us with organising different balls games on our field. Our invite to the dads read ‘wear comfy shoes’, but we had one dad arrive in a three-piece suit and with that, he had remembered to put on his soccer shoes just for the morning with us,” said Anderson.

Anderson said she was proud of the learners and all the effort they put in, and some dads even had ‘homework’ to do with their kiddies on Father’s Day by making their own ties.

“Sadly, our dads are not always able to come to events with work commitments etc., so having just about all our dads join us was special for everyone. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, lots of running and sweating.”

Each age group decided on their own gift for dad with the children braving the cold to make footprint cards and salt dough frames.

One parent, David Thorpe said he thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with his child playing soccer and meeting her friends, and being able to experience a small part of her school day together made it so special.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Curro Castle pre-school team for a well organised event. I enjoyed seeing my daughter interact with her classmates in the school environment as well as meeting some of the parents. This will certainly be a highlight and a date to not miss on the calendar for next year for all fathers,” said Thorpe.

The dads and children were given burgers and hot dogs with juice to end off their celebrations
