Region A community development day was a success

The day started off with an aerobic session, which set the mood for the rest of the day.

Joburg Region A community development day saw more than 100 community members gather at Ivory Regional Park on May 28 under the theme ‘Get to know community developments’.

The day of fun was hosted by MMC for Community Development Ronald Harris, and community members from areas such as Ebony Park, Ivory Park, Rabie Ridge and President Park to name a few participated in all types of fun activities.

The purpose of the day was to reach out to the Ward 78 community to showcase services offered by the community development portfolio which includes City Parks, Joburg City Theatres, and Joburg Zoo.

The portfolio offers diverse programmes aimed at addressing social needs as well as promoting social cohesion. The services offered include but are not limited to access to facilities, parks, cemeteries, theatres, the maintenance of open spaces and facilities, and promotion of creative industries.

Harris expressed his overwhelming gratitude for the support that the event received from the community.

“If I could, I would name each and every individual who made the day a success but I am afraid I might miss others,” said Harris. “However, I was impressed with every showcase from our stakeholders, departments, and entities.”

Aside from an orchestra entertaining the crowd, there was also the theatre truck which provided attendees with entertainment from drum majorettes, pantsula dancers and other fun activities.
“This was a collective collaboration and I am certain that the community of Region A now understands what the Department of Community Development in the City of Johannesburg is about,” Harris concluded.
