Local NPO to give winter clothes to the needy in Tembisa

Local NPO Connect to Feed requests food and clothes for donations as they plan to help the children of Tembisa stay warm this winter.

Midrand-based NPO Connect to Feed requests donations ahead of their winter initiative in June to donate warm clothes and food parcels to children in need.

The handover ceremony will take place on June 19 and they hope to spread happiness and spend some time with about 33 children from Bulamahlo Orphanage also known as Tembisa Tots.

One of the directors of the organisation Swati Bhagat said they reached out to the children’s home and requested them to share their ‘needs list’. Based on that, they will be donating groceries, sanitary items and toiletries.

“Our aim is to make the lives of the children a little bit happier and cheerful. We wish and hope that, with our little contributions, we will be able to bring smiles to their faces. The kids are our future, let’s make it better with our small gestures,” said Bhagat.

The organisation needs items such as cooking oil, maize meal, rice, milk, sanitary pads and washing and bath soaps among other needed items. The 33 children – 11 girls and 22 boys – also need school shoes and uniforms.

Bhagat said the organisation requests everyone from the community to come forward and donate as much as they can. She said they will also accept old toys and clothes provided they are in a good condition.

“We would also need five volunteers for the event, so anyone who is interested to help us will be much appreciated.”

Connect to Feed handed out food parcels on May 8 to about 100 people in Ivory Park as part of the Mother’s Day celebration.
