Residents are invited to a Noordwyk Parkrun

Residents are strongly encouraged to register on the Parkrun website before participating.

The Noordwyk Parkrun 5km now takes place every Saturday at 08:00, and local community members are welcome to put on their running shoes and join in the fun.

Volunteers organise this weekly event that takes place in Noordwyk Park, and it is free, friendly, and takes place for everyone’s benefit.

Amina Saber, a co-event director for Noordwyk Parkrun, said they wanted to build a community by doing something healthy and also by making use of the park. “You can walk, jog, run, volunteer, or spectate, it’s up to you,” Saber said.

Saber added they were looking for volunteers who could assist but did not want to participate in the physical part of the walk, run, or jog.

Noordwyk Parkrun is currently run by two event directors, Jeanny Tshukudu and Saber, with Everisto de Aguiar of Midstream Parkrun and volunteer Kobus Botha at the core.

To allow ‘parkrunners’ to compare their results, Parkrun events use age grading. Based on the runner’s time and the world record time for their gender and age group, age grading produces a score.

According to Parkrun rules, this score allows runners to compare their personal performance with other people’s, even if they are of different ages and gender.

“Pet owners are welcome to participate with one dog with them, within reach at all times, on a short, hand-held, non-extendable lead,” Saber concluded.

Prior to participating, residents are strongly encouraged to sign up on the Parkrun website and also visit the Noordwyk Parkrun page for previous parkruns.
