Christ Church learner makes the South African U19 team for the Indoor Netball World Cup in Australia
“I am grateful for every opportunity I’ve been given and I thank God for the talents He has given me and is allowing me to pursue,” says the learner.
Christ Church Preparatory School and College Grade 11 learner and captain of the first team netball, Elmarie Vusieka (16), has been selected for the South African U19 indoor netball team.
The team will participate in the Indoor Netball World Cup in Brisbane, Australia, in 2023. Elmarie captained the U19 Central Gauteng team in the inter-provincial tournament from March 31 to April 4 this year. She was also considered for the Gauteng U16 team but was instead selected for the final trials in the U19 age group.
Netball is Elmarie’s passion, and she has many achievements including making the Central Gauteng U16 team, the Johannesburg Netball Association U19 A team, the GSS U16 team, and she was selected among the top 30 players in South Africa.
When asked about all her achievements and the prospect of representing her country Elmarie said, “I am grateful for every opportunity I’ve been given. I thank God for the talents He has given me and is allowing me to pursue. I thank all my teammates, coaches, and especially my mom, who has sacrificed a lot – none of my achievements would have been possible without them.”
The director of Sport and Culture at Christ Church Alviro Petersen said, “As a school, we are extremely proud of Elmarie. She is the epitome of our high-performance sports vision, a leader in her sport as well as a leader within the sport and culture captains’ group at the school. Representing your country is a privilege and I am sure Elmarie will not just make her family, friends, and teammates proud, but the country too.”
