Midrand High Schools get 8 past Glen Austin

Five minutes into the second stanza, Midrand High was awarded a penalty and substitute Tshiamo Matlapeng calmly slotted it home.

Midrand High School U15 soccer team thrashed Glen Austin High School 8–2 in their first School League clash on April 21.

Both teams started well and created a few chances in the first few minutes of the game. However, after settling in well in the middle of the park, Thabelo Dubadze of Midrand High gave his team more attacking prowess going forward.

Thabelo distributed the ball on both flanks to use the pace of their wingers and find loopholes in Glen Austin’s sloppy defence to easily pierce through them like a hot knife through butter.

In the 10th minute, Midrand were awarded a free-kick in a promising area but Thabelo fluffed that opportunity over the crossbar.

Despite Glen Austin’s defence trying to remain resolute it was evident that they were under siege. It was eventually bridged in the 13th minute when their keeper Samkelo Ntshingila parried the ball into an on-coming Prosperity Ramotebele who easily tapped in from close range.

Austin then pulled up their socks to get back into the game but it was not to be after they squandered a few goal-scoring opportunities.

The flood gates were opened on the other end, with Prosperity grabbing his brace and to take his goal tally to three.

Midrand went into half-time leading 3–0.

Five minutes into the second stanza, Midrand were awarded a penalty after the Austin defence failed to clear their lines and substitute Tshiamo Matlapeng calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Midrand were clearly cruising at this stage and Thabelo and Itu Rammutla went on to put their names on the scoresheet.

Austin tried to redeem themselves with two quick goals from Bayanda Ndawonde on the stroke of full-time but it was too late as the referee blew the final whistle.

The results for other teams were as follows:

U19 Midrand High 3 Glen Austin High 1.
