Christ Church bids farewell to one of its long-time teachers

The school wished her a wonderful retirement filled with family time, relaxation, and blessings.

Following 18 years as a teacher at Christ Church Preparatory School and College, Walda Wortmann has decided to retire.

Wortmann began at Christ Church as a Grade 2 teacher. Three years later she was charged with creating and managing the learning support centre at the school, a task she eagerly accepted.

Today, the unique centre consists of four learning support specialists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and educational psychologists.

Wortmann is described as a mentor, leader, school mother, and friend. She has a passion for learners who passed through her hands and she has always fought to have their needs take priority.

Her vast knowledge of learning challenges and guidance on how to assist learners presenting challenges has been most valuable to all who worked with her, staff, parents, and learners.

Wortmann has made a real difference to countless children who have passed through Christ Church over the years. She has always had a passion to help children who battle educationally and lives out the school motto, ‘to serve and to lead’ in a very real way.

The school wished her a wonderful retirement filled with family time, relaxation, and blessings. Alet Steenkamp of the school’s learning support centre said, “May you enjoy this new path in your life, we will miss you immensely.”
