Local school learners gets introduced to a variety of fun and exciting books acted out by the team

The learners were glued to their seats and were entranced by the performances from the team and they will have to read the books to find out what happens next in the stories.

The Hooked on Books team visited Christ Church Preparatory School and College on April 6.

The foundation phase learners were introduced to a variety of fun and exciting books acted out by the team.

Hooked on Books is a touring educational theatre company that has been igniting a love of reading in children across the country. They get children ‘hooked on books’.

The team showed the learners what to look forward to in the books. The learners also had the opportunity to see a poem acted out, with singing, dancing and music. This is a unique way of reading poetry and one that many learners will want to experience again.

Intermediate phase learners also had a selection of books showcased by the team, leaving the learners wanting to know more about the story. The learners were glued to their seats and were entranced by the performances. They will have to read the books to find out what happens next in the stories.

“What an ingenious way to get involved with reading,” said Dawn Schmitz, Christ Church’s marketing manager.

“Who wouldn’t want to read more after these performances? Thanks to Loren Frost [Christ Church’s librarian], the books will be available soon for the learners to read. Alternatively, they can be bought on the Hooked on Books website at a 10% discount.”
