Christ Church learners showcase their artistic talents

The event consisted of art displays, drama, impromptu speeches, as well as various musical items.

 

To showcase some of the school’s talents, Christ Church Preparatory School and College hosted an Arts and Culture Evening on March 30.

The adjudicator for the evening was Yule Oswald who is an AFDA honours graduate, Mnet Student of the year for live performance, and has worked in the industry as a TV commercials director, all-round director, writer, performer, and emcee.

The evening started off with the school’s Grade 12 Marimba group playing Fetch your life and Rolling in the deep. The Grade 7s, 8s, 10s, and 11s also dazzled the audience with their fantastic musical creations on the marimbas.

The evening concluded with the College Choir, directed by Jaco van der Merwe, singing the original poem Nkosi Sikelela iAfrica.

Awards were handed out by Oswald for the items that were adjudicated throughout the evening. Prior to the presentations of awards, Yule said if she had been adjudicating the College Choir, she would have given them 100% for outstanding performance.

The outstanding performers for the unprepared speech on the topic ‘the two most powerful warriors are Patience and Time’ by Leo Tolstoy, a Russian writer, included Makungu Chabalala, Kelly Goldman, Oladipupo Soogun, Angela Linake, Hailey Pillay, Elton Zvoushe, and Keziah Ganesan.

 

Under the drama category, the outstanding performers included Arehone Masakona, Lukhanyiso Tywala, Nkanyezi Nene, Shumirai Chimwanda, Makungu Chabalala, Jennifer Baillie, Aliyah Bennett, Zinhle Maphumulo, Shumirai Chimwanda, Mangaliso Ngema, Tsholofelo Rasebitse, James Xilabi, and Nkanyezi Nene.

“A huge thank you to Marlene Bezuidenhoud and her team, as well as Hannah Ritchie, a Grade 12 learner who heads up the arts and culture portfolio, as well as the team of arts and culture portfolio learners who organised an excellent, moving, and entertaining evening,” concluded Dawn Schmitz, the school marketing manager.
