There was jubilation on the playgrounds of Reddam House School in Waterfall City during their learners’ market day on April 1.
Grade 6 learners gathered on the school grounds to set up various food, sweets, toys and fun stalls to raise money for the Grade 6’s farewell at the end of the year. A portion of the money would be donated to the charity of their choice.
Head of Grade 6 and deputy head of student affairs Julie Smith said the day was to help the learners think out of the box and for them to get to know each other.
“All our Grade 6s and their four different committees, public relations, event planning, outreach and environmental committee, planned the entire event on their own. All the committees got together and decided what they will do to raise money. We want to help them think independently while teaching them entrepreneurial skills,” said Smith.
As part of the day’s theme, learners had to dress as different characters such as gladiators or Spiderman.
Grade 6 learner and environmental committee member Jessica Laws (12) said she was ecstatic about the day.
“Today [April 1] was a market day and it was really fun because I had to hang out with my friends in the committees. So, since I am in the environmental committee, we got to make eco-friendly things such as recyclable bottles,” said Jessica.
