Bulo vows to mark territory in the music industry

It was in 2020 during the Covid-19 national lockdown that Njabulo Masemola was motivated to use the time to get back to his love for composing.

Halfway Gardens-based producer Njabulo Masemola said he was not in the music industry for the money.

Bulo, as the 30-year-old amapiano producer is affectionately known, said understanding music was art but composing it was even greater.

“It takes a great artist to always find his way back to music. The FL studio app taught me the basics of composing music, so when I went to varsity to study civil engineering in 2011, I had the experience of composing music as a hobby. However, I had to pause composing and find a job when my ex-girlfriend and I had a baby,” said Masemola.

In 2020, during the Covid-19 national lockdown, Masemola became motivated to use his time to get back into composing.

He was then introduced to The Creation Room, a production management company that assisted him in recreating and infusing his authentic amapiano sound with an African sound.

Bulo described his music as amapiano with an infusion of premium African music, expressing his desire to work with the likes of Ami Faku, Lady Zamar and Msaki.

“I want people who listen to my music to be able to express their emotions, to be motivated, to feel and connect with the sound. I want the youth to resonate with my kind of music because I still maintain that commercial amapiano beat.”

He released a single in February Udlala ngami (you are playing with me) which features Mthunzi and Nkosazana Daughter.
Bulo said he would release more music this year starting with his five-track EP set to be out in May for Mother’s Day celebrations.

This would be followed by another EP in August for Women’s Month which would feature female artists only.
