Suspect arrested after police chase

Constable Eliot Mabulane of the Midrand Police Station said that the suspect was arrested, a docket was opened and police are doing further investigations after finding suspected drugs in his vehilce.

One suspect has been arrested for reckless and negligent driving, as well as resisting arrest in President Park, corner Brand Road and Swart Drive.

According to Constable Eliot Mabulane, the male suspect was arrested on February 10 around 11:45 after he failed to comply with lawful instructions ordered by police officers on duty.

“The suspect was stopped during a stop and search operation that is part of curbing crime on Swart Road, instead of stopping as instructed, he sped off, driving on oncoming traffic,” said Mabulane.

Mabulane said that the suspect was then blocked on the corner of Brand Road and Swart Drive, wanting to make a turn onto Brand Road, by other police who were called for back up.

Mabulane said that the suspect was then given instructions to come out of his vehicle, to which he still refused. However, police later managed to apprehend him.

“After searching his vehicle, police found suspected drugs which they believe could have been the reason for him resisting arrest and failing to comply with law.

“The suspect has been detained at the Midrand Police Station cells, while the police do an investigation and a docket has been opened,” said Mabulane.

The Midrand Police Station commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso applauded members for a positive response towards the call to apprehend the suspect.

“This arrest is the prevention of further commissioning of unknown crimes, and will serve as a deterrence to those that are in contradiction with the law, they should know that no one is above the law,” Tsotsotso concluded.
