Burglary stopped by Kyalami residents, one suspect arrested

KYALAMI — A Castle Kyalami Fidelity security guard, Dejan Dutoit, blocked off one of their escape routes while another patroller sealed off the other exit.

A house robbery suspect was arrested and turned over to the Midrand police while two others were scared off by Kyalami residents, patrollers, and security.

Around 01:24 on March 21, security guards from Castle Kyalami spotted three suspects on their cameras attempting to make an escape with stolen goods in Ash Road. With quick thinking and speed, the community was alerted and immediately ran into action.

The suspects were tracked via cameras and cornered while making their escape attempts with the stolen loot. A Castle Kyalami Fidelity security guard, Dejan Dutoit, blocked off one of their escape routes while another patroller sealed off the other exit.

Other local security companies such as TRSS, Beaulieu Estate Fidelity, DFT Armed Response, and the Community Policing Forum began a manhunt that would prove successful.

A guard named Obed Nefefe managed to capture one of the suspects hiding in a tree while the search for the other two continued. After the capture of the suspect, all the stolen goods were retrieved and handed to the police along with the suspect.

Marco Hill, head of security for Castle Kyalami said, “This is the second robbery we have had to deal with this year and both attempts were foiled by all of us working together to keep our community safe. We have zero-tolerance for crime, and we will continue to protect our community.”

Midrand police spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody and a case opened. The search for the two other suspects still continues.
“A case docket has been opened and the arrested suspect has been charged with possession of the suspected stolen property,” Mabulane said.

The Midrand Police Station Commander, Brigadier Tsotsotso, appreciated and applauded the good working relationship between the community members, security companies, and the police in apprehending the suspects.

All items were recovered and handed back to the lawful owner.
