JRA responds to Midrand residents’ complaints about potholes

MIDRAND — Sand or gravel roads are even worse as they cannot withstand the running water.

Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) has taken the first steps to address the pothole-ridden roads in Midrand following complaints from residents.

Some Midrand residents have complained about the potholes on Potgieter Road in Glen Austin, George Road in Noordwyk, and State and Brand roads in President Park.

The spokesperson of JRA Mosa Makhalima said on March 3 a team inspected the potholes in Region A, Midrand.

“The JRA depot will start working on the problem areas next week, however, as interim measures. There are still investigations to be done as we are still not sure of where exactly the water that flows on the roads comes from.

“We will be engaging some departments from the JRA like the Planning Department and Infrastructure Development Department so that we can establish where the water comes from and get permanent solutions.”
A resident, Mandie Van Wyk said, “Our lives are at risk every time we use these roads and it is only getting worse.”

Gerrit Bannink, another resident who spoke on behalf of the Hampton Road residents, said they were fed up with the apparent poor service from JRA.

“The new roads are falling apart. The tar is two months old. The driveways are damaged. The road is full of cracks and sinkholes,” Bannink said.
