Ward 132 councillor pleased with the roads

MIDRAND — The project started in October last year and is expected to be completed in 22 months, said Ward 132 councillor.

In her capacity as councillor for Ward 132, Annette Deppe is pleased with the ongoing construction of the new K73 road between Montrose and Allandale roads.

The project is overseen by the Gauteng Provincial Department of Roads and Transport and includes improvements to Woodmead Drive at its intersection with the new K73 and to Allandale Road between Harry Galaun Drive and Pitts Avenue.

“Allandale Road is finally getting the attention it needs,” said Deppe on March 4 during the stakeholder engagement and sod-turning ceremony commemorating the beginning of Allandale Road.

Deppe said she cannot wait for the project to be completed after many years of receiving complaints from residents about the upgrading of Allandale Road which causes a lot of traffic congestion that affects many roads in Midrand.

“This provincial road has been requested multiple times in the Integrated Development Plan, as well as in Growth and Development Strategy 2040, that it needs to be upgraded.

“The traffic on these roads affects many other Midrand roads, as well as the R55 and the K101,” said Deppe, who has represented the ward for 15 years.

“We are very pleased with the progress on the roads. The project started in October last year and is expected to be completed in 22 months.”

The project is located in Ward 132, Midrand, in the Northern region of the City of Johannesburg. The site is located between Kyalami Racetrack to the west, Mall of Africa to the east, Waterfall Estate to the South, and Vorna Valley to the north.

MEC of Public Transport and Road Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo stated that the programme is an integrated, comprehensive, and sustainable service delivery that seeks to radically restructure the interface between government and the people to better respond to their needs.
