Van-Tee addresses black love and societal struggles in new song

NOORDWYK – Arthur Andzani Bvuma better known as Van-Tee said that he put together an A team and that made him confident they would do justice to this banger of a song.

Arthur Andzani Bvuma, known to many as Van-Tee, recently released a new song Angeke Balunge in which he highlights and addresses black love and common societal struggles.

Explaining how the song came about, the Noordwyk singer, songwriter and music producer said a local radio station held a competition for in-house presenters and listeners to add a modern day flavour to one of the station’s old jingles.

“Dr Blondie Makhene was one of the co-producers of the original jingle and was made judge for the rerun competition.

“Since my wife won the in-house competition, she received a weekend getaway prize to a lodge in Limpopo. As a judge, Dr Makhene joined the winners. The same weekend was his birthday, so we decided to drive together with him,” said Bvuma.

He said on the way to the lodge he played his songs in the car and Makhene played some of his music.

“As an artist, I have always wanted a struggle song [a song addressing an issue of importance]. Considering Dr Makhene was huge on struggle songs, I asked him to bless me with a collaboration.

“He agreed, I went and did my research and put together my ‘A’ team consisting of Spirit in Production, Vuyo Manyike who played bass guitar and on vocals I got Malume Cookingsoul and Xelimpilo. At that moment I knew we would do justice to this project.”

Bvuma said said the song had a lot of elements, from afropop and amapiano, and a 80s and 90s popular music sound.

He said the whole idea behind the song was to speak against issues such as gender-based violence and the societal challenges that existed across communities, mostly black communities.

“We are telling people to stop their condescending attitude towards such issues and saying we are strong, nobody will do anything to us.”

Bvuma said the video for the hit song would soon be televised, but for now the song can be streamed or downloaded on all digital music platforms.
