City begins vaccination reach-out in Region A

RANDJIESPARK – Targeted areas will be Swazi Inn, Mabena Squatter Camp and Ebony Park as it was discovered these places had low vaccination uptake.

To get more people vaccinated in areas with less vaccine uptake in Region A.

The Johannesburg Health District JHD) has joined forces with the City of Johannesburg, and Zwakala programme to launch more public vaccination pop-up sites.

In a press release published on February 2, The JHD said that these sites would include Swazi Inn, Ext 7 Park (Wednesday, February 9); Mabena Squatter Camp (Thursday, 10); and Riverside Ext 15 (Friday, 11) in Ebony Park, Midrand. The sites will operate from 09:00 until 15:00.

According to the JHD, these areas were ranked among the lowest-performing areas on the vaccination uptake in Region A.

Therefore the district was hoping that targeting these areas would positively increase vaccination uptake in the region.

Chief director for the Johannesburg Health District, Mogeru Morewane said that the partnership with these stakeholders is part of their commitment to combatting vaccine hesitancy by creating convenient access to vaccinations.

“Vaccination is our best hope of defeating the pandemic to save lives and restore livelihoods.

“We are proud to collaborate with stakeholders to make this essential service available so that we can reach as many eligible people as possible in the quickest amount of time. During this programme, undocumented communities will also be vaccinated,” said Morewane.

JHD said that the new vaccination sites would have the capacity to vaccinate 1 000 or more individuals a day.

Vaccinations will be open to all individuals aged 12-years-old, and above, and citizens are encouraged to visit these sites even if they are not registered on the Electronic Vaccination Database System.

The department concluded that everyone coming to vaccinate was requested to bring their birth certificate, identity document, or driver’s license, they will be assisted with registration by the healthcare workers on-site.
