“Our vaulters are training up to achieve the higher levels in the future.”

For those who still did not understand the sport, Fox said that vaulting was a sport described in simple terms as ‘gymnastics on a horse’s back’.

She said competitors take part in a series of exercises firstly performed on a static barrel and then on a horse.

“The routine can be performed both individually or as a pairs combination. At the lowest level of E Grade the horse only walks, but as the level of difficulty increases the horse now canters while the vaulters perform their routine.

“Vaulting is a sport for all ages. Children can begin vaulting at the age of six or younger and our senior vaulters are 18 years old and older.”

Fox concluded that the sport was recognised within the South African Equestrian Federation and Vasa that was run by the chairman, Michelle Blaauw, and her committee.
