Midrand Crickets Saturday 1 loses to Kwathema

NOORDWYK – The Midrand Cricket Club Saturday 1 side finished their game against Kwathema Cricket Club on a sad note. Luckily the Promotion side finished their game on a high note against Daveyton Cricket Club.

Midrand Cricket Club Saturday Premier League team played their second T20 game of the year against Kwathema Cricket Club, in Kwathema Springs on January 22.

According to player and coach, George Mokuki, Midrand chose to bat first, and there was a notable performance by himself.

“Mukoki scored 50 off 35 balls with wickets falling around him.

“Midrand ended up getting 101 in their allotted 20 overs leaving Kwathema a target of 102 to win,” said Mukoki.
Mukoki added that his 3/20 in four overs was not enough to secure the win against Kwathema.
The opposition secured the victory with five wickets in hand and six overs to spare.

“Congratulations to George Mukoki for scoring the first 50 of the season across all teams and his second for the Saturday Premier League side.”

Meanwhile, on January 23, Midrand’s Promotion team hosted Daveyton Cricket Club at Olifantsfontein Stadium.

Mukoki said Midrand won the toss and chose to bowl first and bundled out Daveyton for 70.

“Midrand CC made light work of the chase as they wrapped up the win in 14 overs.

“This left Midrand Promotion firmly on top of the log standings heading into their next fixture against Geluksdal CC, who last year in the reverse fixture survived with the assistance of rain.”

Mukoki said the Promotion side would host Geluksdal on January 30. “The upcoming game will be the decider as [Geluksdal] is the only threat to Midrand’s Premier League ambitions.

“Saturday sees Midrand Premier take on Christian Boys Cricket Old Boys at Olifantsfontein Stadium in the afternoon fixture.”

Midrand Director’s team kick off their 2022 season away against Kempton Park CC while Midrand Colts travel to Katlehong for a date with Katlehong CC.
