Local netball players make it into Gauteng’s provincial teams

GLEN AUSTIN – Mokgadi Mahladisa and Gabisile Maselakgomo say that they want to work hard and improve their game so they can make the National teams next year.


Two Glen Austin netball players have been selected for the Gauteng Provincial Netball Teams to represent Region A.

Mokgadi Mahladisa who is 16 years old and Gabisile Moselakgomo (20) will represent Gauteng in the national championships.

The girls who play for Sunrise Netball Club in Region A, participated in the Johannesburg Netball trials and were selected for the Johannesburg Netball Team.

Soon after, they participated in the Gauteng Netball Championship which was hosted in Pretoria, and Mahladisa was selected to represent the Gauteng U19 team and Moselakgomo the U21s.

Explaining how she felt being chosen, Mahladisa said she was very excited to have made the provincial squad.

“I would like to continue getting better and better. Right now I plan to train harder and get fit because I want to see myself playing for our national team and take part in the 2023 championships,” she added.

Moselakgomo said making the U21 team was not easy and she said she had put a lot of effort into being selected.

“To make it this far, I think one needs much encouragement, it is vital for one so they can do well at their game.

“Going forward, I want to apply myself more and put more effort into how I play so that I can be in the 2023 World Cup squad which will take place next year in July in Cape Town. So that means I need to work hard this year at the championships,” said Moselakgomo.

Sibongile Ndaba, who is the coach of the Sunrise Netball Club, praised her players.
“I believe the higher they go in the world of netball, the higher they take my name, which I am extremely proud of,” Ndaba concluded.
