SANBS Blood Drive at Midrand Circles Market

MIDRAND — The SANBS is seeking Blood Donations as there is a severe shortage of blood.

Locals are encouraged to ‘help someone live a life filled with joy, love, and hope’ by donating blood at the South African National Blood Service (Sanbs) Blood Drive at Midrand Circles Market on January 22 from 09:00 to 14:00.

Sanbs is seeking blood donations as there is a severe shortage of blood. According to Margaret Melville, an organiser at the market, one might ask why one should travel to Glen Austin to donate blood. “The answer to this question is easy – The market is in a wide-open space and you will get to meet new and interesting people in a safe environment,” Melville said.

Father and son, Robert and Chris Southey of Chris’s Meat Stall, arrange the blood drive with Sanbs every six to eight weeks, and they are passionate about it. They spend a great deal of time and effort promoting it together with the other vendors at the market.

“Members of the community will make a world of difference if they can join us on the day and donate blood. This is one of the ways to give back to the community,” Melville added.

Melville said the market was not only a place where people could buy and sell products and eat great food. “For a market to be sustainable, community involvement is essential which is why we allow such events like blood donation to take place at the market.”

The market also works together with the Glen Austin Residents Association and everything they do is beneficial to the community as a whole.
