Midrand Cricket Club player’s band together to push development

MIDRAND – Midrand Cricket Club has mentored aspiring cricket coaches solely for the purpose of advancing the game in Midrand and the surrounding areas.

With the cricket community in Midrand growing every year, development structures have since taken shape.

This is visible through the activity at Midrand Cricket Club, which plays under the Eastern’s Cricket Association.

Throughout the years, the club has mentored aspiring cricket coaches solely for the purpose of advancing the game in Midrand and the surrounding areas.

With the local cricket community heading towards academy league structures, more academies have come to the fore under the guidance of former or existing club members. There is a readiness for competitive cricket games and includes junior cricket up to senior, social and competitive levels.

Former KwaZulu-Natal U17 player Sthembiso Sibisi and player-coach George Mukoki have come together to champion Hard Core Basics – a brand that promotes expressive physical participation in an enjoyable sporty environment.

Mukoki said, “With sports becoming more and more competitive and mainstream entertainment, it is time to advance our mental capacity beyond the physical space.”

Hard Core Basics will present a ‘mindful cricketer’ coaching clinic at the Blue Valley estate’s cricket facility to start the year with a set direction of the brand’s philosophy. The coaching clinic will run for two days at a cost of R300 for two days. The second clinic will be run towards the end of January, the venue will still be determined.

Hard Core Basics has engaged the expertise of former Cape Town Kensington Cricket Club all-rounder and player-coach Allen Magombedze. He is also a Level 2 CSA-certified coach with more than five years’ coaching experience in the Western Cape leagues.

Magombedze has worked under big cricket names such as Jonty Rhodes and Ryan Maron (a former West Indies and Afghanistan assistant/fielding coach at the Cricket School of Excellence).

“Magombedze is coming with the Cape experience and the Lenasia Premier League flare, so beyond the Hard Core Basics coaching clinic. We hope to foster a long-term relationship with him to further develop the philosophy of the mindful cricketer for our cricket brand and the Midrand Cricket Club junior team,” Mukoki added.
