Blue Hills College reflects after a difficult year

BLUE HILLS – Blue Hills College's principal Bekithemba Ndlhovu said that he was grateful for the support from teachers, parents, and learners throughout the pandemic.

As we head into Christmas, Blue Hills College shared its highlights this year and reflected on the good and the bad.

Principal Bekithemba Ndlhovu said the school had had highs and lows, adding that Covid-19 did not make their academic year as smooth as they would have liked it to be.

However, despite everything, he added that God was on their side, and they were able to complete the academic calendar without any disturbances.

“During the year, some of our learners and staff members lost their parents to the pandemic.

“At some point, Covid-19 invaded our premises, but the Covid-19 readiness in the school helped us deal with the situation,” he added.

Ndlhovu said on the academic side, their calendar had to be reorganised when schools were forced to close earlier in the year.

“However, since we were ready with the online systems, our learners were not disadvantaged by the school closure.

“The matric Class of 2021 had all the support given by the school, including holiday lessons and Sunday lessons.”

Ndlhovu said though sports activities did take place, they could not enjoy involvement in the leagues with other schools as they normally did.

He added the school was fortunate they could still allow their tennis players to get involved in the tennis league since the sport was considered a non-contact sport.

“Generally, the year was not a peaceful one due to Covid-19 challenges, but we are grateful to our teachers, parents, and learners, for remaining strong against the pandemic.

“To learners and parents, as we move towards the festive season, it is important that we all stay vigilant, as the Covid-19 is still with us. “It is also unfortunate that we approach the festive season under the cloud of this new Covid-19 variant.”
