Midrand primary wishes you a safe Christmas

NOORDWYK – Acting principal, David Mulaudzi advised all community members to observe all the Covid-19 protocols.

Midrand Primary School’s acting principal, David Mulaudzi reflected on some of the events that stood out for his school this year.

He added that their challenges were, among others, the timetable and the rotational system (where classes were split and learners attended school on certain days to adhere to Covid-19 regulations) as this harmed the quality of teaching and learning.

Mulaudzi said that at some stage the Gauteng Department of Education decided to trim the syllabus because learners could not attend school full-time. As a result, they could not complete the whole education and training programme. “As it stands now, some of the topics need to be taught the following year. We need to revisit to catch up which is a big issue,” he added.

Another challenge they faced was when some of their teachers tested positive for Covid-19 and had to be away from school for 10 days.

Mulaudzi said that as a school that did very well in sports, arts and culture in the past, not being able to participate in the three was an unfortunate reality. They were not allowed to take part in inter-school and inter-provincial competitions until August this year due to Covid-19 protocols.

On the bright side, he added, an information and communications technology project they recently completed was a highlight. “All our classes will now have an internet connection.”

He added that there were projects on the pipeline, such as their borehole project.

He concluded by wishing the Midrand community, learners, parents and staff a safe Christmas. “Let’s observe all the protocols. I think for us to curb all these variants we should encourage the community to vaccinate.”
