The pandemic has taken a toll on many businesses and a lot of start-ups are still trying to keep afloat.

The Crossing Church recently hosted a Business X-change breakfast in Midrand to encourage start-ups and established businesses in and around Johannesburg. Speakers at the breakfast sought to give hope to people in business and inspire them to lead with integrity.

The Business X-change initiative was founded by Midrand resident Kerryne Krause who has a vision to anchor business on faith-based principles.

Krause said her drive and passion for the business came from her ‘love for the business community. “I am very passionate about entrepreneurs. I have 20 years of business experience and developed a globally unique technology that has reached a global market.”

One of the speakers, Sandy Foce, co-founder of Foce Property Investments, encouraged business owners to keep hope and faith alive. “You need to ascertain what the purpose of your business is, don’t be afraid to step out and unlock your dreams, 2022 is going to be a great year, go with courage,” she said.

Fellow speaker Nadine Butcher said, “There has been so much loss personally and in business for so many people. Mourn the different losses in your life, but stand up and try again.”
Pastor Brad Lane spoke about running a value- and faith-based business. “It’s not an easy time to run a business especially having to learn to impress clients through cyberspace. Zoom meetings are not an easy path especially with load-shedding, business was easier when you could meet clients face to face and charm them.”

Aspirant farmers and Midrand residents Tumi Khumalo and Kea Moroka attended the business event to be inspired as they cultivate their path to starting their farming aspirations in the future.
Most of the start-ups present echoed the same sentiments of how they had to adjust their service offerings and work from home to cut costs.
