As we approach the last quarter of the year, the number of cash-in-transit robberies increase.
This according to security company, Fidelity Services Group.
The company advised if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of being caught near a cash-in-transit robbery, put your safety first. Chief executive officer of the security company, Wahl Bartmann said, “Cash-in-transit robbery syndicates are highly trained and dangerous, so residents caught in them [cash-in-transit robbery] need to proceed with caution, Fidelity will be stepping up patrols and surveillance over the next three months.”
He provided the following safety tips:
- Try and put as much distance between your vehicle or yourself and the crime scene
- Do not exit your vehicle as you could get caught in the crossfire. Try to vacate the area, only if possible
- Never approach the perpetrators of a cash-in-transit robbery or engage in eye contact with them as they are armed and dangerous
- If caught in the vicinity of a robbery, make sure that you do not switch off your vehicle in case you need to escape the incident. Keep your engine running at all times
- Contact police if possible about the robbery and share videos that you have taken with the authorities, rather than posting them on social media, jeopardising the case
- If you are at a shopping centre and witness a cross-pavement heist near an ATM, the same advice applies – lie flat on the ground to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
Details: During a robbery, if possible, you can call the police on 10111.
