Security officers arrested in Midrand

MIDRAND – This follows a PSIRA investigation, it was found that the security guards were involved in crimes related to business robbery and house breakings where they were stationed.

Ten security officers have been arrested in Midrand after being found in violation of the PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulation Authority) act on November 18.

According to the Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Constable Eliot Mabulane, the arrested suspects were from different security companies doing business in the Midrand area.

Mabulane said the arrests were made after multiple cases related to business robberies and housebreakings were reported where these security officers were stationed.

“During an inspection done by PSIRA to check the capability of [security officers] when coming to the protection of premises and of compliance, it was found that numerous security guards in company uniforms are not complying and therefore the security guards were arrested,” he said.
He added the arrests were executed by PSIRA officials.

Mabulane urged security companies to up their surveillance during the festive season.

“The South African Police Service is onboard 24/7 for backup… We are observing every movement. We encourage that every entry of visitors to business and residential premises be recorded for possible investigation should there be any crime committed.”
