Vorna Valley Residents Association is fully functional

MIDRAND – Chairperson of the Vorna Valley Residents Association calls on residents to join the organisation and be active with them as they grow the area.

Vorna Valley Residents Association would like to inform residents in the area that they are a fully functional organisation in which the community can be active and be kept abreast as to what is happening in the area.

Chairperson of the association, Marianne Nel said the reason for this was because many residents may be unaware that Vorna Valley had a wholly committed residents’ association.
Nel said it was important to note that the association was a non-political, non-sectarian organisation, and all its members were volunteers.

She added that currently a big slice of members’ time was taken up by disseminating information, usually relating to service interruptions.

“In addition to the dissemination of information, the members spend a lot of time escalating issues to the relevant service providers. Any time there is a sewage leak or a power interruption, the association gets involved and tries to speed up the resolution of such issues, leveraging the relationships which have been built up over several years,” she added.

Nel said by residents contributing R120 per household annually, this fee would enable the members of the association to continue providing services to the residents.

She added the vision was for Vorna Valley to become self-reliant in other aspects related to service delivery such as the cleaning of streets, tree cutting and so forth.

“The only way it can get there is if we stand together as a unified community. The association would like to engage with the community on a deeper level and welcomes all suggestions.
She concluded the association has several goals and objectives, detailed as follows:

  • To promote and safeguard the interest of all householders and residents in the area.
  • To cooperate with similar non-political associations in other suburbs of Midrand.
  • To coordinate, consult and collaborate with the area’s representative on the relevant council/municipal service or body responsible for the area and to ensure that the issues that impact the safety, value, and upkeep of the area is given due consideration in the management of the area (or surrounding suburbs).
