Botshabelo calls on community members to declutter for positive benefits

MIDRAND – Jessica Smith, director for fundraising and operations at Botshabelo, said all proceeds would go to their three programmes assisting over 3 000 beneficiaries.

Botshabelo has called on Midrand residents to take part in a bit of spring cleaning and give back to those in need.

Jessica Smith, director for fundraising and operations at the centre, said items donated to the organisation will be resold into the community and all proceeds will go to their three programmes – The Babies Home, Teacher Training and Urban Kids preschool – reaching over 3 000 of their beneficiaries.

She explained that community members could donate anything they were no longer using and that was still in a good condition, such as women/men/children’s clothing of all sizes, shoes, linen, toys, furniture, books and household appliances.

Smith shared a few reasons community members should consider donating to Botshabelo after decluttering:

• Residents get rid of old items and help to stock up the organisation’s ‘Urban Closet’ (Botshabelo’s second-hand store).

• A decluttered house can reduce stress and depression.

• Botshabelo will use the unwanted items for something better.

• It is estimated that by cleaning for two hours, you burn about 200 calories.
