Midrand’s new Driving Licence Testing Centre doors are open

MIDRAND – Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula said that the centre would operate from 07:00 to 21:00 in the evening, from Monday to Sunday.

Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula opened the doors to the new Waterfall Park Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) in Midrand on October 7.

Mbalula, who was accompanied by other delegates and MECs, said that as a department they have committed themselves to opening two new Driving Licence Testing Centres at Road Traffic Management Company (RTMC) premises – the other having been opened at Eco Park, Centurion.

He said that considering that Gauteng poses the biggest challenge due to the large population of motorists, these were some of the specific actions identified to tackle challenges specific to the province.

Mbalula added that the centres will set a new benchmark in professionalism, efficiency and service delivery while helping to reduce the backlog of expired driving licences.

He said the centre would operate from 07:00 to 21:00 in the evening, from Monday to Sunday.

“Unlike in other licensing centres and registering authorities, services in these new centres have been configured in such a way that the public will not experience long queues.

“Runners or middlemen who peddle corrupt practices and solicit bribes from motorists will not be allowed anywhere near these premises.”

The minister said that the operationalisation of these centres has added 35,380 renewal slots per month and increased Gauteng’s capacity for renewal slots by 48%, thus putting Gauteng in pole position to clear its backlog by the end of March next year.

“In addition, we will be expanding our online services to include online registration of vehicles and notice of change of ownership, online vehicle licence renewals and payment for online crash reports.

“The RTMC has fitted two buses with state-of-the-art equipment to serve as mobile centres to assist with licence renewals.”

Mbalula concluded that the process of finalising the RTMC registration as DLTC for the operation of these buses remained work in progress and these buses will be deployed in Diepsloot and Alexandra.
