Help refurbish Yenzani

MIDRAND – The most urgent requirements were to replace ceiling panels that are starting to sag, pedestrian gate and ground floor burglar guards among other stuff.

Yenzani Children’s Home calls on community members and businesses to be part of their huge spring cleaning and repair project.

Sanne Mirk, founder of Yenzani said they needed help renewing, refreshing, re-painting, repairing, restoring, and spring cleaning after so many months of lockdown. She added that before lockdown, people had helped with DIY projects at the home when they had the time and means.

However, now they needed sponsorship and donations to hire contractors for the various tasks to hopefully get it all done before the festive season.

“The most urgent requirements are replacing ceiling panels that are starting to sag, a new pedestrian gate, replace all ground floor burglar guards, roof repairs, and repairs to tiles that are lifting on floors and walls,” said Mirk.

Mirk said they needed the following items and work to be done:

• New burglar guards and pedestrian gate.

• Replace sagging ceiling boards – mould protection and repair various roof leaks.

• Buy and install metal racking in the storeroom.

• Replace poles and swings on the jungle gym, repair foosball table, replace windowpanes and rods for pool.

• Replace and fit tiles lifting on walls and floor. Buy and fit castor wheels for bathroom sliding door.

• Replace light/fan fittings and covers. Repair various items with general wear and tear as well as new hinges on doors and cupboards.

• New cupboard and shelving solution for the girls’ bedroom.

• Paint boundary wall and interior/exterior of the house.

• Television aerial and decoder connections reset and repaired.

• Paving for the playground.

• First aid and CPR training for children and staff.

• Garden upgrade and irrigation system.

• Whiteboard, pinboards, and stationery cupboards.

• Financial donations.

• Laptops for office staff and office chairs.

• New blinds for all windows in the house.

• New fitted stove, oven, and microwave.

• New Toyota Avanza or other seven-seater vehicle.

• Drywall/ partitions for the office.

• New large chest freezer.

• New bed and mattress and small used television.

• Large outdoor refuse bins.

• Covers for old lounge suit chairs.

• Casual and school clothes, and shoes.

Mirk concluded that everything on the list needed to be done, therefore no donation was too big or too small.
