Stationery donated to learners in need

MIDRAND – Noordwyk Secondary School and Midrand High School learners benefited from the donated stationery.

In an effort to help learners from underprivileged communities, Academy of Tuition donated 50 sets of stationery to schools in Midrand.

Noordwyk Secondary School and Midrand High School received 25 sets each to help their Grade 8 to 10 learners. The stationery packs comprised notebooks, exam pads, pens, pencils, and erasers packaged in drawstring bags, sanitiser and a mask to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Director for the Academy of Tuition, Shiksha Moodley, said it was founded in 1995 in KwaZulu-Natal to meet the educational needs of learners seeking academic help.

“The academy has officially launched in Gauteng, with the primary objective of expanding the programme nationally. However, we require corporate support in the form of a partnership in order to reach more learners in need from diverse schools across the country as part of our ‘Teach a Child campaign’,” Moodley added.

The Academy of Tuition has worked with tutors from a variety of professional backgrounds, including medical students, attorneys, chartered accountants, and others, to assist learners in mathematics, science, accounting, English and Afrikaans.

Alex Tau, principal of Noordwyk Secondary School, expressed gratitude for the donations. He said some of his learners came from disadvantaged backgrounds such as Ivory Park and Olievenhoutbosch, and not all children at his school could buy stationery. He anticipated a good collaboration with the Academy of Tuition.

Dr Camy Reddy, head of academics at Midrand High School, expressed her excitement as well. Reddy said the school was fortunate that such an organisation helped their learners.
