NGO calls on residents to support local haven

MIDRAND – Connect To Feed founder Upama Srivastava said the deadline for monetary donations was September 28.

A local non-profit organisation, Connect To Feed is calling on residents to assist them with donations for The Village Safe Haven in Buccleuch.

Connect To Feed founder Upama Srivastava said the organisation would appreciate it if people could donate funds or items on their wish list.

Srivastava explained why she chose The Village Safe Haven. “Whilst there to visit, I met a child on her birthday. Because the centre houses 15 children, what they usually do on a child’s birthday is send a message out to all volunteers or donors to come and cut some cake and celebrate with the children.”

She said while celebrating with the children, it dawned on her that she could do an even bigger drive for the orphanage and donate some much-needed items.

She said the needed items are:

• Nappies (Five packs)

• Cerelac (10 packs)

• Toiletries

• Pasta (10 packs)

• Fresh fruit

• Cereal (10 packs)

• Biscuits (20 packs)

• Chips (10 packs)

• Fish fingers (five packs)

• Nuggets (five packs).

Srivastava said they would be going to The Village Safe Haven on October 1 to hand over the items. Those who would like to donate funds should do so before September 28. “Our goal is to get all the items listed on our wish list and, after buying all the listed items, if there is some money left over we will get some extra treats for the children like sweets and chocolates.”

Residents can drop off old clothes or toys, they should be in good condition and dropped off before 14:00 in the afternoon.
