Glen Austin roads reported countless times but still not fixed

GLEN AUSTIN – JRA promised to sort out road maintenance on Stag and Papillon roads by September 8.

A resident in Glen Austin raised her concern over the badly deteriorated road infrastructure she was forced to use daily.

Adele Swanepoel said that Stag and Papillon roads, which pass by her property, have been in a bad condition for about three years and were getting worse by the day.

She added that when it rains it becomes hard for everyone using the roads to drive on them because of all the accumulated debris in the potholes. “This area got damaged by construction vehicles entering and exiting businesses in our area.

“I started with an application on my phone which did not work. I then contacted one of the ward councillors who reported the matter to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) on Twitter and gave me reference number #3916926. And this happened in April.”

JRA media officer Kelebogile Mafa said that the road badly deteriorated and plans around its repairs were still underway. “The team is scheduled to carry out repairs beginning Wednesday, the 8th September 2021,” she added.

The Midrand Reporter visited the site on September 14, and there was no sign of construction or repairs on the road.

Mafa stressed that for a faster response, residents could report defects on the City’s or Johannesburg Roads Agency’s reporting platforms and would thereafter be issued with a reference number.

“It is important to note that the turn-around time or ETR for repairs vary according to the type of defect.

“However, residents do receive feedback on the status/progress of their query when they follow up, either when the query has been processed or when an inspection is scheduled to happen.”
