Suspects arrested for possession of drugs to appear at Magistrates’ Court

MIDRAND – Three suspects are due to appear in Midrand Magistrates' Court after being arrested for possession of drugs.

Three suspects are due to appear in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court after being arrested for possession of drugs on August 20 in the Midrand central business district.

According to Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane, the three suspects were arrested during a police patrol after they were found in possession of drugs.

“The suspects have been detained pending an investigation and will be making their first appearance before the magistrate soon. The suspects were arrested on a regular day-to-day operation that addresses crime within the Midrand area, led by the acting Visible Policing Commander Lieutenant Colonel Nhlanhla Sibisi,” he added.

Mabulane said the issue of drugs was a concern countrywide that affected youth and further resulted in other crimes. “Social crime prevention officials are engaging the community and youth on all social media platforms to address the abuse of drugs.”

He added, “The police in Midrand long for our youth to take the initiative to come forward for help to manage addiction and get help to stay away from drugs. Within the station, we have our victim empowerment centre which deals with social issues that affect society, and we have partnered with other stakeholders such as Sanca [South African National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence] which acts more on addressing drug-related incidents.”

Mabulane concluded that Midrand Police Station Commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso had applauded the members for the good job they did on the day and the effort they were putting in to address all crimes.

He added that the commander called on youth to stand up and take responsibility for their lives.
