100 Women Who Care NPO needs sponsors to host a chess tournament
MIDRAND – A local non profit organisation called the '100 Women Who Care', has called on local businesses and individuals to assist them in hosting young boys between the ages of 10 to 13-years-old from the Dobsonville Hostel for the 2021 Chess Tournament on September 11 in Midrand.

The organisation was set up by women with the aim to empower women and youth through various skills initiatives.
According to Millicent Kgeledi, founder and chairperson for the organisation, the objective of the chess tournament is to encourage the 16 young boys who were part of the Dobsonville Hostel Chess Club to participate in the tournament at a competitive level so they could get exposed to the bigger world of chess competitions.
“These boys are from a poor background at the Dobsonvile Hostel but despite these challenges, they have been playing chess on paper boards and have continued through the years in this sport despite the odds against them.
“This tournament is aimed at exposing these young boys to a life that has been foreign to them. I aim to host the tournament in a hotel conference room in Midrand that is willing to avail its facilities for the day, with the judges of the tournament and the coach who is currently coaching these boys in chess.
“The plan is to have the event as an annual event which will grow bigger every year and include more underprivileged children,” said Kgeledi.
She added that the top three players would receive trophies and other prizes.
Kgeledi was requesting assistance with the following:
- Transporting the 16 boys and their coach to Midrand on the day of the tournament.
- A local hotel to host the tournament and cater for the participants and judges.
- Sponsoring of T-shirts and possibly tracksuits to wear on the day of the tournament with the slogan ‘Keep a boy off the streets through chess’.
- Medals and certificates for the 16 boys and their coaches.
- Trophies and certificates for the first, second and third prize winners.
- Cash prize of R500 for the winner.
