Kyalami Schools Group has launched an online learning programme created to help learners gain access to advanced programme courses.
The Kyalami Schools Online Learning Zone was launched on August 18 at Beaulieu College.
Group head of academics and innovation at the group, Mark Naidoo, said the concept behind the online learning zone was to offer the group’s schools advanced programme mathematics course and other niche subjects – such as equine studies, engineering, graphics and design and advanced programme physics – to children who could not normally access the programme. The hope is also that learners can reap the benefits of taking their chosen courses, helping them going forward into university as well as in their career path.
He added that through their programme and its flexible accessibility, learners would not have to attend school to access the content, but could access their classes wherever they were – as long as they had an internet connection and a device – and still get the same teaching.
“We will take the content that is delivered by one of our expert teachers. A child could watch it at home and then engage in a live tutorial session with the teacher while they are physically in class or attending virtually,” he added.
Naidoo said some of the benefits of the online experience was that the lessons were pre-recorded, so learners can go back to gain a full understanding. He added that the programme guaranteed increased learner engagement as well as increasing the chances of a learner passing.
He said that the course was fully accredited by the Kyalami Schools Group, affiliated with the IEB (Independent Examinations Board) and it would be offered in Grades 10, 11 and 12. “At the end of Grade 12, there is an external exit exam. A child would then register with their respective school or KSG and write an exit exam during their Grade 12 year and then get results on that particular subject together with their matric results.”
Naidoo said they hoped to offer access to these courses to learners from disadvantaged backgrounds and to provide their tuition to enable them to be a part of the programme at no cost in the near future.
He concluded that registration would commence soon so learners could start to access the programme at the beginning of next year.
