Three convictions a stern warning to crime enthusiasts

MIDRAND – The Midrand Police Station reported on July 26 that three suspects had been successfully convicted on different crimes, ranging from robbery, perjury and drunk and driving.

The Midrand Police Station reported on July 26 that three people had been successfully convicted on different crimes ranging from robbery, perjury and drunk and driving.

According to the Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane, who released a statement on behalf of the Station Commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso, on June 3, Lawrence Dube was sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment for armed robbery by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, followed by Prince Inebere who was convicted for committing perjury, also by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, after it was discovered that a false case was opened at the Midrand Police Station.

“Inebere was sentenced to 20 days or an eligible fine worth R2 000 on July 19. One other case that will serve as deterrence is the one related to drunk and driving, as many people have been involved in accidents that could have led to the loss of lives or commission of crime such as gender-based violence due to intoxication in the form of alcohol.

“Lusani Mamafhe was sentenced to six months in prison and fined R20 000 as well by the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on July 19, after he was found guilty of driving while under the influence of alcohol.”

Mabulane added that many drivers misbehaved on the road, “Recklessly driving under the effects of alcohol and that led them to very severe consequences, some of which might end up being the loss of another life or other criminal acts.”

Mabulane concluded that people should know that once one has been arrested or convicted, the criminal record would stay on their identification document profile which could disadvantage them from getting employment or opportunities for them to grow in life.

“Crime will never pay, instead, it can and will ruin one’s good future.”
