Attacq Foundation seals partnership with Phuthumani Primary

MIDRAND – Attacq Foundation announced the partnership with Phuthumani Primary School

In an effort to enhance child development and learning opportunities in the Tembisa community, Attacq Foundation has ‘adopted’ Phuthumani Primary School.

The foundation announced the partnership with the school on August 12 indicating that the organisation had concluded a three-year ‘adoption’ agreement with the school.

According to the Attacq Foundation website, their philosophy is underpinned by the positive connection between education and social development, striving to make sure that youth are educated, equipped with the necessary skills and sufficiently prepared for employment.

The partnership would see the school benefit from the construction of a new classroom including a host of other infrastructure improvement initiatives. Child nutrition and development programmes were also core to how the foundation would support Phuthumani.

Located in Tembisa, the school has been a central pillar of the local community, boasting an alumni who have become community heroes and leaders. As a no-fee school, Phuthumani caters to 1 366 learners and 40 dedicated teachers, ensuring that primary school children are afforded a safe and reliable place of learning. The school was founded in 1987 and is one of the oldest in the province.

Attacq’s relationship with Phuthumani began last year when, in collaboration with Sage Foundation, they supported the school by donating Covid-19 hygiene packs, renovating two classrooms, and donating 230 school shoes and 100 training shoes with the help of Ackerman’s (Mall of Africa) and the community.

Danny Vermeulen, Attacq’s transformation manager said the three-year adoption programme would take both the school and the foundation’s relationship one step further. “By formalising our relationship with the school – and proactively co–creating solutions to pressing problems – we hope to provide Phuthumani with the longer term certainty of support from committed partners.

“Our goal is to invest in the school, thereby, allowing them to plan for the future and giving them the room and resources to continue investing in their students,” Vermeulen added.

The school’s principal, Shadrack Hlatshwayo said the partnership would go a long way in ensuring that their learners received quality education in a conducive environment and through better skilled teachers.

Over the course of the adoption term which commenced in July this year, the foundation and school would work together to identify key projects that would help the school to meet its educational objectives.
