The Midrand People’s Market needs local talent

MIDRAND – Local non-profit company calls local residents to showcase their talent

Ward 132’s local non-profit company, Midrand People’s Market (MPM) has called on local creatives to audition for a talent showcase.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe, who has offered her support to the event and spoke on behalf of the joint collaborative between MPM and local government, told the Midrand Reporter on August 2 that they would hold the showcase on August 29 which would include a fashion show, musicians, clothing designers and comedians.

The non-profit company is an initiative established out of the Midrand Ward 132

small medium and micro-enterprise community, aimed at showcasing and promoting the visibility of various businesses, many of which were currently operating from home or have challenges such as high rentals.

She said the company was necessary as Midrand lacked a family-oriented offering that was easily accessible, and in a safe and affordable environment. “At the same time, there is massive untapped talent in the community, especially among the youth. We believe that if we identify and showcase such talent, we would be doing justice to our community by having youths and adults that are mentally engaged to stay away from undesirable vices like drug abuse and other societal challenges which are affecting our youths,” she said.

“On the business side, we are aware that many businesses have struggled to survive during the Covid-19 pandemic. We as MPM are committed to creating a platform where businesses, from small to medium, can showcase their creativity at our markets.”

Deppe said that those interested could complete a form to audition. “Walk-ins would also be accepted on the day as they will complete the form at the venue for the auditions.”
