After classes commenced online on July 26, SPARK Carlswald shared their plans to keep learners safe as they began physically attending school again from August 3.
SPARK Carlswald’s acting principal Catherine Stewart explained that they followed the same curriculum throughout from their online learning back into the classroom.
She said the teachers were incredibly excited to welcome learners back to school physically, adding that the staff has worked really hard to ensure a smooth transition from online to in-person learning. “I know from the scholars’ side, they are definitely looking forward to attending school and being able to interact with their friends and as well as their teachers again.
“We would like to applaud our teachers and our scholars on how they handled these changes to the learning offerings throughout the year. Everyone turned out doing pretty well.”
Stewart said that while Covid-19 was still around they were being very careful about it, which was why they had quite a good cleaning process that happened before the learners and staff get to the school.
“We have sanitisers that are available in all the spaces and the scholars have been taught to observe social distancing throughout the day. Masks are compulsory for everyone on the school grounds and we have shields in place between each scholar in the classroom as well as having extended some of the classroom spaces where necessary, to ensure social distancing.
“All our staff has been trained on Covid-19 protocol so they really are aware of the processes and procedures to follow.”
Stewart commended the systems in place to allow learners to do maths and literacy online which they were able to access from home. “We were all lucky that was set up beforehand.”
