Learners at Blue Hills College head back to school

MIDRAND – Principal Bhekithemba Ndlovu has pleaded with parents to withhold children from going to school if they were in contact with those affected by Covid-19 and were isolating.

Blue Hills College learners made their return to school on August 2, following announcements by the government that learning should resume.

Bhekithemba Ndlovu, principal at the college, discussed with the Midrand Reporter what their plans were going forward in making sure that learners did their best at school and stayed safe while getting educated.

Ndlovu explained that following the president’s announcement on June 30, their learners did their studies online and attended classes online until Friday, July 16.

“We then closed for two weeks. Our boarders came back on August 1, just in time for our opening. Looking at the situation at hand where Covid-19 was concerned, we are had all our systems ready to make sure that when the boarders arrived, we would be ready to fight the pandemic because during the holiday we received news that some of our parents were infected which put some of our learners in isolation.

“As we open, some of our learners are still in isolation given the Covid-19 situations that were reported at home, but we hope this will not affect us as we begin the third term.”

Ndlovu added that they have pleaded with parents to work with them, because if the pandemic hit the school and with the boarding setup being there, they could end up finding themselves facing a lot of challenges.

“If we have three of four learners infected it may form a closure again, which we try by all means to avoid. Therefore, we want to partner with our parents so that they can assist us. If there is anyone at home who has Covid-19 and is in isolation because of being in contact with a person infected, they should assist us by holding the learners back. We have systems in place to attend to learners at home.”
