Ward 94 councillor encourages residents to get vaccinated

BROADACRES – Following Johannesburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo’s death, Ward 94 councillor David Foley highlighted the importance of getting vaccinated.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley is appealing to members of the community who are eligible to register for the Covid-19 vaccine to do so as soon as possible.

Having received his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on July 9, Foley said he was able to get his through his medical aid. He said the entire process of the afternoon’s events was a quick and easy one.

“It’s very important to know two things. One is to register on the government website, and the other, if you are on medical aid, is to register there as well. My medical aid was absolutely brilliant in keeping me notified and reminding me how close the date is,” he said.

Vaccine registration for people between the age of 35 and 49 will begin on July 15, with the roll-out set to begin in August.

When elaborating on the importance of getting the vaccinations, Foley made mention of the recent passing of City of Johannesburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo and DA MP Cameron Mackenzie. “While I was a little bit nervous because of the needles, I would absolutely recommend everyone gets vaccinated. This is too close to home right now.

He added, “It’s wonderful to see all the private companies and business sectors are coming to the party. It will definitely help the government.

“I challenge other members of the Johannesburg councillor forums, ward councillors, and MMCs to get vaccinated. I’m pretty sure after the mayor’s passing, there’s going to be a big drive.”
