Growing water leakage grows problems on the road

MIDRAND – Ward 132 Councillor, Annette Deppe has raised concerns over water leakages on Harry Galaun Drive and Allandale Road in Vorna Valley, Midrand.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe has raised concerns over water leakages on Harry Galaun Drive and Allandale Road in Vorna Valley.

Deppe said the leaks were reported months ago and that she first reported it to Johannesburg Water on March 8 but claimed she never received a response.

She added that she also reported the problem at one of the council forum meetings but since then nothing had been done. “The fact is that the leak breaks the road up. If Johannesburg Water does not fix the leak, it will end up having to be the Johannesburg Roads Agency’s job to fix it,” she said.

Deppe said the wet surface of the roads could be dangerous at night and cause accidents. “I reported the matter again on June 11 saying that there was a leakage on Allandale Road and Harry Galaun Drive, emphasisng that the underground water could result in a pothole crisis developing.”

The Midrand Reporter contacted Johannesburg Water to find out when the leaks would be fixed. Eleanor Mavimbela, spokesperson for Johannesburg Water said while they were aware of the leaks, they could not trace where exactly they were located.

“Because of the traffic congestion, the road will not be closed. A contractor has been appointed and they will be drilling and replacing that whole strip underneath the road,” added Mavimbela.

She concluded that the repairs would start in the coming week.
