Vorna Valley Residents Association encourages community to donate

MIDRAND – The Vorna Valley Residents Association shared outcomes of their annual general meeting which was held on June 23 via Zoom.

The Vorna Valley Residents Association shared the outcome of their annual general meeting which was held on June 23.

Chairperson for the association Mariane Nel explained that their licence plate recognition camera project was running smoothly and has yielded positive results. This is after several cases from the alerts about potentially stolen cars and cars involved in crimes were taken to the police.

She added that they have also assisted several residents with information from the cameras regarding break-ins.

Even though they are proud of how far they have come, Nel said that problems still exist when doing work for the community. “We ask that businesses and residents contribute to our association so that we can add more cameras to the existing poles and help with the monthly running costs as we are in dire need.”

Nel also touched on illegal schools which are a concern. She said that they have noticed that some schools begin operating before they have received all the relevant permissions.

She said that these concerns will be discussed in another meeting on July 14.

Nel concluded that there are a few changes in their board. “Hein de Kock resigned in the past year and Carol Thornton agreed to take de Kock’s place. Wendy Redl has stepped down, and we thank her for her involvement over the past year.

“The remaining committee agreed to stand for a further year. No nominations were received. Nominations from the floor were: Kaveer Rangisingh, Thulani Manabe, Genevieve Russell.”
